Amazon | Goodreads | Author Website | Author Twitter Lydia Bentley has heard stories about the Montauk Project all her life: stories about the strange things that took place at the abandoned military base near her home and the people who’ve disappeared over the years. Stories about people like her own great-grandfather.When Lydia stumbles into a portal that transports her to a dangerous and strange new reality, she discovers that all the stories she’s ever heard about the Montauk Project are true, and that she’s in the middle of one of the most dangerous experiments in history.
Alongside a darkly mysterious boy she is wary to trust, Lydia begins to unravel the secrets surrounding the Project. But the truths behind these secrets force her to question all her choices–and if Lydia chooses wrong, she might not save her family but destroy them . . . and herself – Goodreads
Rachel Carter, author of So Close to You
You’re a DEBUT AUTHOR. First thing that popped into your head after you read that?
OMG! It’s overwhelming exciting, but a little scary too. This is my one shot at being a debut author; there are no do-overs here! But I’m also trying not to over-think the whole process and to just enjoy the ride.
If you could be the author of any previously published work, which would it be and why?
If I Stay by Gayle Forman. It’s so moving and beautifully written. Every time I read it I’m devastated by the story of Adam and Mia…and also jealous that it’s not my book!
A lot of the times I hear the question – which celebrity do you see your main characters in a movie? Instead, I want you to cast the secondary characters for me, because a lot of times in books and movies, those will be the characters I really love.
Ok, let’s see. Mary could be Emma Stone. Or a slightly older Georgie Henley. Lucas…Hunter Parish. Logan Lerman for Grant. Maybe Ben Barnes for Dean? I can’t think of any others!
Your photos of the actual Montauk Project are awesome (I creeped your blog). Did the Montauk Project find you or did you find it (in terms of creating the idea for So Close to You)?
It found me. Definitely. I heard about the Montauk Project and was immediately intrigued by the idea of this secret government conspiracy that takes place in an old army camp at the end of Long Island. The more I researched it, the more inspired I was to write a story about it!
Here’s a scary question – how are things going with book 3, compared to the writing process for So Close to You and 2?
Umm…they’re not? I just finished editing book 2, so I’m taking a little writing break while I enjoy the release of So Close to You. I do have an outline of book 3 though, and I definitely know how things are going to play out for Lydia and Wes. Spoiler alert: there will be angst.

Love the gov’t conspiracy plot that actually turns out to be true! Can’t wait to read this!

The premise of this one sounds quite different from most other YA books! I don’t really know anything about the Montauk Project but I think it’s very cool that it inspired the author to write a YA series involving this government conspiracy. Thanks for the giveaway!

Rachel Carter! Congratulations on the debut! I actually had never heard of the Montauk Project, so I just looked it up and read a little bit about it. I feel equal parts dumb (for not knowing about it) and intrigued because I love sci-fi and time travel stuff. Sounds like a fascinating premise for a book. Well, series. Great interview, gals!
