Sixteen-year-old Noa has been a victim of the system ever since her parents died. Now living off the grid and trusting no one, she uses her computer-hacking skills to stay safely anonymous and alone. But when she wakes up on a table in an empty warehouse with an IV in her arm and no memory of how she got there, Noa starts to wish she had someone on her side.

Enter Peter Gregory. A rich kid and the leader of a hacker alliance, Peter needs people with Noa’s talents on his team. Especially after a shady corporation threatens his life. But what Noa and Peter don’t realize is that Noa holds the key to a terrible secret, and there are those who’d stop at nothing to silence her for good.

Filled with action, suspense, and romance, this first book in a new trilogy offers readers nonstop thrills. – Goodreads

I don’t know why, but I was a little wary of Don’t Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon. But you know, one moment I was 12 pages in and the next I was closing the book and it was one in the morning.

Don’t Turn Around is engaging and intense and definitely sucked me in. I loved where the storyline went – it’s definitely an action packed book with lots of chase scenes, but even when there was downtime, I was invested in the story.

I had mixed feelings on the characters in Don’t Turn Around. Some pages I felt like the character development was lacking a little and then other pages it didn’t matter because the story was so good! I did really like the protagonist, Noa. She was a tough character and I’m always up for a badass female protagonist. Peter fell a little flat for me in parts and I didn’t quite get the relationship between him and his parents. It was kind of a big part of his character but his parents were just so…one dimensional, if that makes sense.

But Don’t Turn Around has this awesome mystery/sci-fi thing going on, which I definitely didn’t expect. Don’t Turn Around felt so modern, like it was happening right now in Boston, except there were definitely some parts of the storyline that were futuristic.

I really liked the ending of Don’t Turn Around. I’m not usually a fan of cliffhangers, but I thought this one was done well. It wasn’t like a super high stakes cliffhanger, I knew just enough to close the book satisfied, but still definitely wanting to read the sequel.

I was totally sucked in by Don’t Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon. It’s an action-packed thriller that kept me on my toes and rooting for the characters the whole time, even if I didn’t necessarily connect with them. Be sure to check Don’t Turn Around out if it sounds like something you’d be interested in!

  1. I legit need to be sucked in by a book. I mean, I was sucked in yesterday by Since You Left Me by Allen Zadoff, but I want to be sucked in again and this looks like it will fit the bill. Yay mystery and thriller!

  4. Because this isn’t a gushing review, I don’t feel too bad about passing up on requesting a galley. I feel like I’ll be perfectly content waiting until I CAN read it. Still, it’s great that the mystery/sci-fi bit is sure to impress :)

  6. I’ve been hearing mixed things on this book, but I’ll definitley still give it a try. I have been hearing a lot that the characters are flat so I’ll be expecting that. Great review!:))

  7. Even though the characters were a little one-dimensional, the rest of it sounds like me – I think. If the rest of the story can make up for the characterization, I can dig it. I wasn’t particularly interested before but you sort of have my interest up when you talk about the futuristic sci-fi thing. Hmmm…
