Kami Glass loves someone she’s never met . . . a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born. She wasn’t silent about her imaginary friend during her childhood, and is thus a bit of an outsider in her sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale. Still, Kami hasn’t suffered too much from not fitting in. She has a best friend, runs the school newspaper, and is only occasionally caught talking to herself. Her life is in order, just the way she likes it, despite the voice in her head.

But all that changes when the Lynburns return.

The Lynburn family has owned the spectacular and sinister manor that overlooks Sorry-in-the-Vale for centuries. The mysterious twin sisters who abandoned their ancestral home a generation ago are back, along with their teenage sons, Jared and Ash, one of whom is eerily familiar to Kami. Kami is not one to shy away from the unknown—in fact, she’s determined to find answers for all the questions Sorry-in-the-Vale is suddenly posing. Who is responsible for the bloody deeds in the depths of the woods? What is her own mother hiding? And now that her imaginary friend has become a real boy, does she still love him? Does she hate him? Can she trust him? – Goodreads

I can hardly express in words how much I legitimately loved Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan. This is the first book I’ve read by Sarah Rees Brennan (although I have read some of her earlier writing years ago and LOVED them) and I’ve met her like two times and she’s HILARIOUS and I don’t know why I waited until Unspoken to read something of hers.

But oh my goodness, I am SO GLAD I read Unspoken and I can’t wait to hold my finished copy in my hands. Unspoken is AMAZING. Sarah Rees Brennan has some serious talent. Unspoken is HILARIOUS but also intriguing and mysterious and swoony and HILARIOUS.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a protagonist so funny in life or death situations. Kimi was an awesome protagonist. She’s ballsy and brave and stands up for her and goes after what she wants and she’s witty and funny in a very natural feeling way. I never felt like she was trying too hard. She was just naturally hilarious.

And I freaking loved Jared. I loved him. He had major problems but he was so…I don’t even know. He was just awesome.

The storyline of Unspoken was full of secrets and intrigue and suspicious murders and magic and I loved it. LOVED IT. I had no freaking clue what was going on and I didn’t even come close to guessing all the twists and it was so brilliantly done and if I hadn’t been hooked by the characters, I would have for sure been hooked for the story.

Basically, if you’re looking for an amazing book, be sure to pick up Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan. Unspoken somehow manages to perfectly combine stunning writing with hilarious and real characters, and the excitement of never know what’s coming next. Unspoken is a book I know I will be rereading as soon as my finished copy arrives and I can’t wait to read anything and everything by Sarah Rees Brennan.

  5. I had a real soft spot for Jared, too. I thought the way his bond with Kami was explored was so interesting – there were reasons to both love and hate it.
