Top Ten Tuesday: Settings I Want to See More

Each week, The Broke and Bookish host a Top Ten Tuesday based on a certain bookish topic. Other bloggers are able to participate and post their own top ten list based on the topic.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Settings I Want to See More. Fairly self explanatory – I love books that feature settings I love and I want to see more books in those settings!
So without further adieu…

1) Europe – I lived in Europe, you guys. For six months. London, to be exact. I freaking loved it and I love books that take place in all the cities and countries I traveled to. It gives me warm, fuzzy feelings to read about a protagonist’s first time abroad because I totally connect with that. I need more abroad books.

2) Road Trips – Again, I’m a sucker for travel. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of books that involve driving cross-country with a boy the protagonist barely knows (or knows to well). More, please!

3) Snow – I’ve never seen snow. EVER. I love to live vicariously through the wintery YA contemps with snowstorms and ice skating while I’m sitting here with in Florida with a lemonade and hand-held fan.

4) Florida – And to totally contradict my last answer, I would love to see more books set in Florida. I get super giddy whenever books and TV shows and movies mention Florida, Tallahassee, or Florida State University. I’m a loser, but whatever.

5) French Revolution – I love the sad, depressing books that leaving me heavy with sorrow and tears and what not. I love them even more when they’re based in fact. I’m a history nerd at heart and I think the French Revolution is one of my favourite time periods to learn about. So yes, I’d love to see more books set in the French Revolution!

6) Dystopian worlds – Look, I’ll never get over Dystopian books. I know people are starting to get tired of them, but I don’t anticipate this happening for me ever. I love new, creative worlds like this with questionable governments and ballsy protagonists.
And now for some more specific settings…

7) Non-Muggle World – Is there even a specific name for the world of Harry Potter? I mean, I guess I could say Hogwarts. But I need more set in this world!

8) Tortall – I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Tamora Pierce. IT’S IMPOSSIBLE. Please give me more books set in Tortall, please!

9) Middle Earth – I could live in Middle Earth forever and ever. Especially if Aragorn is at my side.

10) The world of The Cadet of Tildor by Alex Lidell – Be still my heart! Alex Lidell has written this amazing new fantasy and I just need to read more from her world. Seriously.

I want to live in the Harry Potter world forever, so YES to that! And I can’t get enough of dystopian worlds and Middle-Earth either. Love that you added those!

As someone who’s currently dealing with zero degree weather and frozen waterbuckets, I’m having a difficult time getting excited about snowy and cold settings, however I do like the idea of a French Revolution themed novel.

Ooh being from Australia, I love to read books with a really snowy setting, especially when they get snowed in. It’s so foreign to me, I can’t imagine what it must be like to be that cold.
Also… Aragorn <3

I listed London on my list this week too! I am obsessed with all things British so it makes sense ;p Also, Florida! I always forget that you’re in Tallahassee! :)

Great list! I allllmost had roadtrips on mine! :)

I love European settings too! I’d also like to see lots of books set during the French revolution.

What a good idea to include specific book worlds! I would read anything written in the Harry Potter world. I feel like we need more. Magical university? Magical jobs? A story set in Hogwarts but told from a teacher’s point of view? The possibilities!

I love the real world settings that you mentioned (because I totally want more road trip books too!), but I love the other settings even more. Because I’m a fan of all the same ones you are and COMPLETELY agree – we need MORE set in these worlds :)

I love your list! I absolutely agree with almost all of it, except Tortall (just because I haven’t read any of Pierce’s books yet) and snow. I live in NJ and I’m tired of snow. I’m convinced that when I’m old, I’ll be one of those migrating seniors who goes south for the winter with the birds. Lol.

Second the roadtrips – they are the best!!

I want to see more road trips and I like snow books because I’ve never seen snow in my life, so I can live through books instead!

The French Revolution era would be a great time to read more about. I’m definitely all for that! And, I had the same problem with Harry Potter, lol. I did end up putting Hogwarts.

Cold weather sucks :P It’s much better living vicariously in a cold climate than actually living in it. I agree that there should be more books set in Florida, too! That why I can live vicariously in a warm climate! :P

I love that you live vicariously through books as a way to experience snow. I don’t necessarily always like snow but I also can’t imagine not having it during the winter time. Even though it’s really cold, and really annoying to have to shovel constantly as it is falling down. Ah well … guess it could be worse!
Great list! :)

I agree 100% with your #1! I studied abroad in Europe also, and it’s just…. augh. Beautiful.

Never seen snow? Sounds like you need a road trip. ;) Never even though about time periods as setting, a la French Revolution, but yes!

Wow, you’ve never seen snow? My list focuses on warm places this week because it’s so stinkin’ cold.

I LOVE road trips books! I just know I will never get tired of road trips and dystopian books. It’s not in my hands. Also, Paris is so awesome so I’d definitely love to read books set in Paris.
Great list!
