Gennifer Albin’s Life Post-Publication + Giveaway
I don’t even know how to express my love for Crewel by Gennifer Albin. I posted a review of Crewel last year that was essentially a handful of GIFs expressing the wide range of emotions I felt while reading Crewel, but to this day, it’s still so hard to put into words.
I mean, Crewel was just amazing. And mind-blowing. I have lost the ability to even when it comes to Crewel. My GIF review thing is here if you’re interested.
Anyway, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in interviewing Gennifer Albin about her life post-publication. And Macmillan is even throwing in a hardcover copy of Crewel plus an awesome bracelet for one of you to win!

Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel

Alright, let’s be honest. Did you save any photos that people sent you of CREWEL in store and do you still get giddy seeing CREWEL on the shelves?
Oh, absolutely! My uncle sent me a picture of it next to Ender’s Game—one of my favorite childhood books—and I melted into a puddle of goo. It still doesn’t feel real actually.
Have you been able to travel somewhere as a published author (maybe for a book signing, conference, etc) that you would have never gone before?
Lots of places! I recently went to Miami, which was fabulous. Cuban food and sun—I wanted to stay there forever.
I know most writers spend a lot of time in front the computer in their pajamas. Do you think you spend more or less time in front of the computer now that you’re published and do you have favorite pajama pants? Haha!
Probably the same amount of time. I’ve always been too attached to the computer. I do have a favorite pair of pajama pants, but I don’t wear them to work. I can’t work if I’m not dressed. Weird, I know.

Awesome that Genn got to travel a lot for book signings. Many authors don’t get that help from their publishers. I loved Crewel. It’s such a unique story. Can’t wait for book 2.

I’m so glad to hear of someone else who loved CREWEL as much as I did!! It was my absolute favorite read of 2012 – which is saying a lot, because I read some amazing books last year (Cinder, Across the Universe, This Is Not a Test (which I’d say is #2 on my faves list), and SO many more)!! But I was simply stunned by this book. I think the concept was just genius, and I LOVED the fact that it actually made me THINK, like about physics, the nature of time and space, memory and the plasticity of the human brain, and so much more. (I hope that doesn’t scare anyone off, because it’s not a hard book to read, and I think you can choose how deeply you want to think about those things, if at all… or just enjoy it on the primary level as an amazing story that was just beautifully told.) I feel like I could just go on and on gushing about this book!!! Which is precisely why I haven’t written a review for it yet, about which I feel badly because it totally deserves more exposure!! (It seems to me that it hasn’t gotten as wide an audience as it deserves, which I hate to see happen.) This is probably how you felt in writing your review too!! I’m going to have to go back and check it out – I think using GIFs was pretty smart because it is really difficult to explain all the emotions this book forces to the surface. Phew! I’m going to need to read this one again SOON!!!! I would LOVE to have a copy…. I borrowed it from the library but it is definitely one that must be added to my permanent collection (even after I take advantage of the AMAZING deal on the ebook – I HAVE to have a physical copy too!). I used these brightly colored tape flags to mark certain passages or scenes and concepts I thought were cool or important or that I just wanted to read again, and my husband said, “good lord! It looks like you smushed a tropical bird between the covers!!” Hee hee – let’s just say there were a LOT of flags sacrificed while reading this.book :) Okay, I’ll stop now, lest I go on all day… but needless to say, I would LOVE to win this giveaway, so thank you for the great interview with Gennifer and the chance to win!!

I also can’t work if I’m not dressed! I feel like if I’m in my PJ’s it’s still time to laze about. Good interview, I can’t wait to read this novel!

Ooh, yay for Crewel! I actually really enjoyed this one, even though I do have a lot of questions about the world and I felt weird about the romance. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
