Making friends has never been Elise Dembowski’s strong suit. All throughout her life, she’s been the butt of every joke and the outsider in every conversation. When a final attempt at popularity fails, Elise nearly gives up. Then she stumbles upon a warehouse party where she meets Vicky, a girl in a band who accepts her; Char, a cute, yet mysterious disc jockey; Pippa, a carefree spirit from England; and most importantly, a love for DJing.
Told in a refreshingly genuine and laugh-out-loud funny voice, THIS SONG WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE is an exuberant novel about identity, friendship, and the power of music to bring people together. – Goodreads
Leila Sales never fails to write stunning books. I loved her previous two books, Mostly Good Girls and Past Perfect, but This Song Will Save Your Life was just…gah. It was moving and brilliant and witty and just perfectly honest.
One of my favourite things about Leila Sales’ writing is that she doesn’t shy away from teenagers and their thoughts and the crazy shit they do. Her books are open and honest and it’s so easy to connect with them because hello, we were that character, so to speak. She’s able to combine the angstness and the hilariousness of high school age into a brilliant book every time.
Because This Song Will Save Your Life is hilarious. But it also touches on a lot of important issues that not enough people talk about. This is the kind of book that I immediately finished and went, “Man, I need to order a second copy to donate to my aunt’s school library.”
There was a romantic element in This Song Will Save Your Life that was there and surprising and then it changed and then, yeah. Wow. I was worried about where it was going, but loved where it ended up.
This Song Will Save Your Life is important and it’s real, but it does it in such a great voice and with great that you’re not bogged down by the heavy. Perfectly balanced.
So, basically, go pick up This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales. It’s brilliant and you’ll want to go back and read her other two books, which are also brilliant. This Song Will Save Your Life has a great cast of characters, a phenomenal voice, and a really well-done story that will entertain you and move you at the same time.
