I take no prisoners…
I’m Chelsea Halloway and I will happily destroy your social life if you mess with me. Just ask anyone. There is no situation I can’t handle. Divorcing parents? No problem. An ex-boyfriend who wants to date Smith High School’s biggest geek instead of me? Just a matter of time before I can make him see reason. At least, until my parents decide to ship me off on a study abroad trip to Cambodia…
Now instead of being admired as the queen of the Notables, I’m stuck with a bunch of college students who don’t take me seriously, and a professor who accidentally landed himself on the wrong side of a drug lord. And it’s up to me to get us all out of the country alive–even the annoying jerk with the green eyes who won’t stop calling me “princess.”
Oh yeah, what could possibly go wrong? – Goodreads
Okay, so in case you guys didn’t know, I absolutely loved the first two books I read from Marni Bates – Awkward and Decked with Holly. Absolutely hilarious – some of my favourite feel good books of all time. And the third book, Invisible, was pretty good, but not my favourite.
And here we are with the fourth book in the series, Notable. Which is super over the top and ridiculous, but I think that’s what made it a lot of fun.
I mean, you certainly have to suspend your disbelief for a book like Notable where the popular girl in school is shipped off to Cambodia and accidentally gets involved in the drug trade and somehow there’s a perfect happy ending. Like I said, over the top.
But also a lot of fun. I really liked Chelsea. I didn’t like her so much in the past few books because she was kind of a bitch and was definitely cast in the typical evil cheerleader role. But as we got to see a different side of her in Notable, she became way more sympathetic, because hello, this girl has been through a lot.
The romance was cute, if not a bit predictable. I liked Houston a lot and the banter between him and Chelsea.
Anyway, I enjoyed Notable, but it still didn’t quite reach the bar Awkward and Decked with Holly set for me. I was hoping for more of I’m-going-to-pee-my-pants level of hilarity, like with the first two books.
But Notable by Marni Bates was enjoyable nonetheless and I definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of the series!
